WE CONDEMN DISCRIMINATION AGAINST REVOLUTIONARY MILITANTS WITHIN TRADE UNIONS

We condemn the shameful exclusion of one of our comrades from the editorial staff of For The Popular Democracy from the March 10 national online assembly called by a number of provincial coordinations for the reorganization of the Slai Cobas union. Our Comrade had been repeatedly invited over the past few months to such a national online assembly (on behalf of the entire Slai Cobas) by a number of provincial coordinations of that union. The invitation was reiterated several times on the same morning of March 10. A few minutes before the beginning of the assembly our Comrade was informed that due to the opposition of the provincial coordination of Pomigliano D”Arco he could and should no longer be present at the assembly. At the beginning of the online assembly the internet connection with the Comrade was cut off. The Comrade was thus effectively excluded not only from the national assembly, but from the entire “reorganization process of the Slai Cobas union.”

It is worth mentioning that our Comrade has been engaged in union militancy within the National Slai Cobas for 25 years. He has been the provincial coordinator and member of the national coordination of that union for about 20 years, a promoter at the provincial level of dozens of Slai Cobas union bodies (company union representatives) and he has led Slai Cobas to be present in five Workers’ Unitary Union Representatives in as many factories including the largest factory in the province. It has organized various demonstrations, promoted labor lawsuits and organized workers’ strikes. He presented at the last national congress of Slai Cobas in 2010 the Political document approved by the congress (although later this approval turned out to be entirely formal since in fact the document was not applied and was sabotaged). He has been a member of the national secretariat of Slai Cobas for several years until 2017. In the face of the opportunist positions of various provincial coordinations seeking political shores (first with respect to the “Communist Refoundation Party,” then to the “5 Star Movement,” and even to the Northern League), he has always placed at the center the need for confrontation between different positions and affirmed the necessity of the battle to develop and unify Slai Cobas on classist bases. In 2017 he was the promoter of a battle, in line with the prescriptions of the Statute and the needs of workers, for a new Congress of Slai Cobas for its refoundation on classist bases. This battle has seen the irreducible opposition of the bureaucratic-imperial clique of the Naples Coordination and its main leaders (an expression of the revisionism of the PCI first and of the Cossuttian sectors later that had supported the election in Parliament of the deputy Mara Malavenda- who has recently disappeared). The petty logic of revenge against our Comrade took shape once again today with his discriminatory exclusion from the debate and the process, real or presumed, of reorganization of the Slai Cobas. This discrimination finds its most general explanation in the opportunist line of this union, which long ago abandoned the perspective of class struggle and now aims to survive through agreements with other opportunist unions. Consequently, in order to fully defend their interests, these opportunists must pursue a sectarian and fractionist policy with the aim of excluding revolutionaries from the union.
